Money, the Divine, and the Lie We’ve Been Living

There is a misunderstanding around money that runs so deep, most people really look at it.
Some believe money is corrupt.Others chase it like it’s salvation.
Both are distortions. And I have fallen into both traps.
I've recently read a potent chapter in Sri Aurobindo's work calle "The Mother" where what he points to is something far more precise—and far more confronting:
Money is not the problem. Our relationship to it is.
Money Is Not Just Currency. It Is Force.
Sri Aurobindo calls money a universal force.
It moves through the vital and physical planes—through life itself
.It builds. It organizes. It sustains. It expands.
In its origin, money belongs to the Divine.
Not to governments. Not to banks. Not to the people who have the most of it.
To the Divine.
Which means…
The moment we reduce money to something personal—my money, my success, my security—
we’ve already stepped out of alignment.
The Corruption of Money Isn’t What You Think
Sri Aurobindo doesn’t say money is evil.
He says it has been usurped.
Distorted.
Held by forces that operate through ego, control, and unconscious desire.
I have felt this strong myself - leading me to total avoidance of it in the past.
The subtle tightening.
The fear.
The grasping.T
he comparison.
The identity tied to what you have—or don’t have.
This is what he means when he says:
👉 Most people are possessed by money rather than possessing it.
The Spiritual World Got This Wrong Too
The spiritual community didn’t solve this problem.
It avoided it.
Renounce money.Reject wealth.Live simply.
And while there is truth in detachment…
Total rejection is not mastery. It’s abdication.
Sri Aurobindo calls this out clearly:
If you reject money, you leave it in the hands of those who misuse it.
Look around.
That’s exactly what happened.
The Real Work: Reclaiming Money for the Divine
The invitation is not to chase money.
And it’s not to reject it.
It’s to reclaim it.
To hold it differently.
To understand:
👉 You are not the owner. You are the trustee.
This alone shifts everything.
Because a trustee does not cling.
A trustee does not distort.
A trustee does not collapse their identity into what they hold.
A trustee asks:
What is this meant to serve?
This Is Where Most People Break
Because this level of relationship requires something most people haven’t cultivated:
Inner freedom.
Sir Aurobindo is clear:
You should be able to live with little… without feeling lack.
And live with much… without attachment.
This is rare.
Most people swing between:
Scarcity → fear → controlorAbundance → attachment → identity
Both are bondage.
What This Actually Looks Like in Practice
This isn’t abstract.
It’s incredibly practical.
It means:
– You stop making emotional demands of money
– You stop tying your worth to what you have
– You become precise, clean, and intentional in how you use it
– You remove distortion, entitlement, and unconscious spending
– You allow money to move through you, not define you
And most importantly:
You align it with purpose.
Not ego.
Not validation.
Not survival loops.
Purpose.
The Missing Piece in the Wealth Conversation
This is where my work bridges something most people keep separate:
Healing and wealth.
Because you cannot hold money cleanly if your nervous system is distorted around it.
You cannot steward wealth if you are still operating from inherited scarcity, guilt, or unconscious loyalty patterns.
And you definitely cannot “serve the Divine through money”if money is still triggering you.
This is why so many people either:
– push money away– or over-identify with it
Neither is freedom.
The Standard Is Higher Than You Think
Sri Aurobindo sets a very high bar:
To be someone who can hold wealth without being touched by it.
Not numbed.
Not disconnected.
But clear.
Steady.
Neutral.
Devoted.
That’s power.
The Future of Money Is Not What You’ve Been Told
If you really understand what he’s saying…
Then money is not just personal.
It’s evolutionary.
He speaks of a future where money is restored to its rightful place:
👉 As a force used for beauty, harmony, and the divine ordering of life.
That is not going to happen through:
– greed– avoidance– or unconscious accumulation
It happens through people who are:
– clean in their relationship to it
– free from ego distortion
– and deeply anchored in something greater than themselves
So Here’s the Real Question
Not:
“How do I make more money?”
But:
Can I hold money without being owned by it?
Can I receive without grasping?
Can I give without fear?
Can I steward without distortion?
Because if you can…
You become someone money can trust.
And that’s when everything changes.
